Fire‐Induced Collapse of Automated Rack‐Supported Warehouses

Abstract Automated self‐supporting rack warehouses are becoming increasingly common in the international logistics sector. Their static and seismic design has been studied literature; however, fire still needs to be improved. Some Standards, such as Eurocodes or Italian Fire Code, accept collapse of during fires but require avoiding a progressive obtaining an implosive regardless any other active passive protection systems. A hierarchy that guides kinematics defined appropriately without Code going into further details. Moreover, scientific literature focuses more on optimizing systems for racks, sprinklers, rather than preventing fire‐induced collapse. Here, case study is presented, which, using finite element modelling, provide first robustness evaluation highlights some possible aspects considered structural avoid event fire. The analyses performed LOCAFI method localized nonlinear dynamic simulations.
